Roger Waters: The Wall

Roger Waters began his musical career in 1965 with the band that eventually became the legendary Pink Floyd. After the departure of Syd Barrett from the band and the inclusion of David Gilmour, Waters became their principal songwriter. He was a central part of Pink Floyd's massive success in the 1970s and to their eventual fracture in the 1980s after Water's last album with the band, The Final Cut. In 1984 he released his first solo album, The Pros And Cons Of Hitchhiking, to mixed reviews and began to tour. Further solo albums followed throughout 1980s and 1990s, whilst in 1989, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Waters staged a huge live performance of Pink Floyd's The Wall with an all star cast. Throughout the 1990s and into 21st century, Roger Waters has continued to perform live. He has also ventured into classical music, composing the music and writing the English libretto, for a work entitled Ca Ira which was released in 2005. Since his contentious departure from Pink Floyd, rumours have circulated constantly about the band reforming. Waters has always played these down, citing his differences with David Gilmour. However, he has performed with members of Floyd at a number of charity events, including Live 8 in 2005 and with Gilmour at the Hoping Foundation Benefit Evening in 2010. Roger Waters is a major figure in the history of British progressive music, a reputation that is based on a vast and varied body of work of enduring quality.
